This Shawl is based off of Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi shawl- and it was inspired by the song Vaka by the Icelandic Band Sigur Ros.

The theatrical photos are modelled after 1920’s seance photos, and the substance coming out of the 2 model’s mouths is ectoplasm.
Ectoplasm is said to be formed by physical mediums when in a trance state. This material is excreted as a gauze-like substance from orifices on the medium’s body and spiritual entities are said to drape this substance over their nonphysical body, enabling them to interact in the physical and real universe. Some accounts claim that ectoplasm begins clear and almost invisible, but darkens and becomes visible, as the psychic energy becomes stronger.

Yarn- Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in Cast Iron (9 skeins)

Needles- 4mm (4mm dpn’s and a set of 40” to do the magic loop/ 16/24/32/40” if you’re not doing magic loop becasue you’ll have to size up on needles as the shawl grows)

Gauge- 20 sts/28 rows unblocked and 18 stitches/ 24 rows blocked

Dimensions- Unblocked- 42” in diameter and Blocked- 60” in diameter
