Vålådalen Balaclava is a balaclava knitted back and forth in a simple cable pattern inspired by the mountains in Jämtland. You begin at the top of the head, thereafter you will pick up stitches on each side and knit the hood. You will thereafter cast on stitches under the chin and knit the neck in rib in the round. At last you pick up stitches around the face and finish with a rib.

I recommend you to use a cable knitting needle when knitting the cables, to make it easier.

You can use double strand of Nutiden, thicker Mohair or one thread of DK with one thread of mohair. No matter which yarn you choose, you need about 100 grams in total.

For a slightly bigger Balaclava, like the one I’ve knitted in the light beige, go up half a needle size.
