Valenciennes pattern shawl
’This is a particularly lacy pattern for a shawl and is equally suitable for day or evening wear. The centre is worked first and the border is added afterwards so the worker may select the number of stitches suitable to the size which she requires. About half a pound of Penelope Pearl wool will make a very pretty wrap, while rather more floss wool may be substituted for the finer make if a thicker shawl is required. A medium crochet hook will be required for either wool mentioned.
Make as many chain as are required for the width of the shawl, minus six inches, which will be added by the border which is 3 inches wide. The number should be divisible by 21 with 4 extra for turning.’
About 125 grams for centre of shawl, plus extra for edging.
