An advanced beginner level pattern for a chibi frog plushie holding a Valentine’s Day heart. The stitches used in this pattern are very standard for amigurumi work, but there are quite a few pieces to attach and the heart assembly is a bit intermediate. However, I think this is a perfect pattern to take your crochet skills to the next level! The pattern also uses hot glue to make assembly a little easier, however, I would advise against this if you are making the pattern for a small child.

The finished amigurumi is approximately 4.5 inches tall x 5.5 inches wide x 4 inches deep.

Materials needed:

  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn (green, white, and pink). I used Caron Simply Soft in Sage (75 yards), Off-white (7 yards), and Watermelon (12 yards).
  • Crochet thread or embroidery thread. I used Aunt Lydia’s Size 10 Crochet Thread in Black (1 yard)
  • Size G crochet hook, 4.00mm
  • 12mm black safety eyes
  • Yarn or Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Polyfil stuffing
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sewing pins

Stitches/techniques used in this pattern:

  • Magic ring
  • Chain stitch
  • Single crochet
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Slip stitch
  • Working in the Front Loop and Back Loops
  • Joining new thread
  • Weaving in ends

This pattern does not include basic “how to crochet” steps. It assumes you know how to make the stitches and use the techniques listed above. However, if you are having trouble with the instructions, please contact me and I can share guides I find useful.

I cannot guarantee results when using materials other than what is listed above.

If you have trouble with the pattern instructions, please feel free to email me on the email listed in the pattern at the end, or send me a message here on Ravelry. I am always available for troubleshooting problems, and love to hear feedback!
