If you know how to do Corner to Corner (or C2C) Crochet, the pattern has written directions for all three mug rug patterns, which include the number of colored blocks for each row to create the square.

Pattern is written for size 10 crochet thread (white, pink, red and teal) and a 1.65 mm steel hook, but you could work this square in any size yarn with the appropriate hook size.
