The Valkyrie pullover is a casual, comfortable piece you can easily dress up or down, plus it’s a super quick make! Though it uses very thin yarn, the big hook and the long stitches make it fly by, and that combo gives it a delicious drape!

This is a written pattern that uses US terms, and both metric and imperial measurements. It includes some photos to help out with some tricky steps. There are different options for shaping around the waist and hips, and it includes instructions to add the middle finger ring at the pointy end of the sleeves.

It’s made top down so it doesn’t involve sewing, and has a comfortable fit with 5-10cm (2-4in) of ease. If you want it to fit tight, I’d recommend that you use a smaller size than called for in the chart size according to your bust measurements.

I would say this pattern is suitable for any adventurous beginner who wants to learn a bit more than the basics. It uses single crochet, treble crochet, linked treble crochet, front post extended single crochet, and front and back post extended treble crochet.

You can use any sport weight yarn, and I advise you don’t substitute with any other weight, since it uses linked treble stitches that can make the fabric very stiff and dense, and it would alter the fit dramatically. Here are the sizes (based on bust measurements) and the approximate amounts of yarn you’ll need for each:

  • XS (77cm/30in): 950m (1,040yd)
  • S (87cm/34in): 980m (1,070yd)
  • M (97cm/38in): 1,010m (1,105yd)
  • L (107cm/42in): 1,060m (1,160yd)
  • XL (117cm/46in): 1,159m (1,260yd)
  • 2X (127cm/50in): 1,220m (1,335yd)
  • 3X (137cm/54in): 1,300m (1,420yd)
  • 4X (147cm/58in): 1,380m (1,510yd)
  • 5X (157cm/62in): 1,440m (1,575yd) Remember you will personalize the shaping at waist and hips, so you might need a bit more or less yarn.

In the photos you can see me (in purple) and my kid (in burgundy). We both normally use size M, but here I’m wearing the Valkyrie pullover in size M and she’s wearing it in size S. This is to show that if you want a tight fit or the front to be open, use a smaller size than called for based on your real bust measurements.
