Valley of Fire Blouse

The idea for this colourful, feminine, and simple blouse arose during a holiday in the US. After some extremely hot and entertaining days in Las Vegas, we headed towards Utah, but made a detour to the Valley of Fire in Nevada. The beautiful landscape with its characteristic reddish, burnt colours - and the extreme heat of the desert - was the inspiration for the Valley of Fire Blouse.

The blouse is knitted in stockinette stitch, but has feminine details such as shoulder puffs, ‘pleats’ both at the front and back, and a delicate bow knitted in double knitting. The blouse is designed in three versions, so, you can choose the model that best suits you and your preferences.

Length (measured from the middle of the back without neckline) = 53.5 (56) 56 (58.5) 58.5 (61) cm

MATERIALS
The blouse is designed with three different looks:

A) Straight version with a ribbed hem
B) A-shaped version with moderate width
C) A-shaped version with extended width

The C-version is pictured in this pattern.

The amount of yarn required depends on which model you choose. Here is the estimated yarn consumption for the A-line model with the widest width (version C):

• 200 (200) 200 (200) 200 (250) g Silky Mohair from Painter’s Yarn in Coral Reef (50 g/420 m)
• 300 (300) 400 (400) 400 (500) g Merino Singles from Painter’s Yarn in Baby Coral (100 g/366 m)

The blouse is worked using the two strands held together throughout work. The bow is worked in one strand of silk mohair.

Alternative yarns:
For alternative yarns you can use e.g. Brushed lace and 2-ply kidmohair from Mohair by Canard or Tilia and Alva from Filcolana.

Difficulty
The blouse presents several techniques, especially at the top part of the blouse, and I therefore only recommend this pattern for experienced knitters.
