Description

Vallila (neighborhood in Helsinki, Finland) is simple striped men’s t-shirt knitted top-down.

T-shirt starts with knitting back and forth. Once neckline is closed, rest is circular knitting.

Yoke increases have influences from several shoulder structures: raglan, saddle and set-in.

Shoulder line before separating sleeves is knitted with moderate positive ease. After separating sleeves there are two options for body: normal and slim fit.

Neckline is simple and neat. Hem and cuffs have horizontal ribbing with both MC and CC. All edgings are finalized with i-cord bind off.
Sleeve and neck to hem lengths can be changed.

Colors are fully adjustable. There can be one main color (MC) or each MC stripe can be with different color. Same goes also with contrast color (CC). Or t-shirt can be simply unicolor.

Size measures and yarn consumption

There are 8 sizes from S to 5XL. Measures for each size as well as yarn consumptions are in tables. Measures are based on men’s measurements, but this is unisex model suitable for anyone
To select correct size, measure at least bust circumference. Choose a size with your actual bust measurement with the approximately 5-10cm (2-4inch) positive ease.
There are instructions in the pattern to adapt armhole depth, body circumference and hem length according to your preferences.

Gauge

24sts x 34 rows / 10x10 cm
(24.5sts x 34.5 rows / 4x4 inches)

Yarn

Any yarn for given gauge. Fingering is one option.
Yarn used in the t-shirt as example is thin linen. You can use yarns containing any fiber. For summer versions linen, silk and cotton may be good options.

Suggested needle size and length

3.25 mm / US 3 for body and sleeves - Or any other needle size to meet the gauge in stockinette stitch.
Smaller needle size 3.0 mm / US 2.5 is suggested for cuffs and button list.
Circular needles length 80cm / 32” or longer for yoke and hem. Needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round for sleeves.
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after washing and blocking.

Other

8 stitch markers for marking increases and decreases, tapestry needle, crochet hook in smaller size than needles for CO, extra yarn (or circular needles) for sleeve sts waiting for knitting.
