A crescent-shaped shawl with a bottom edge of Van Dyke lace. This lace is a true knitted-lace (patterning on both right-side and wrong-side rows) and because of this the use of lifelines is highly recommended. In its simplest form this shawl uses 400m of sock/4-ply yarn but could be worked with laceweight/2-ply using a 3.25mm or 3.5mm needle, in which case more stitches should be added to the shawl before you start knitting the lace section. Alternatively, it could be made using a double knitting yarn utilizing 4.5mm needles.
