Våräng is Swedish for spring meadow. This is an almost semi-circular shawl including i-cord edges, honeycomb brioche, garter and slip stitch stripes and a border with nifty cables and a decorative bind-off.

The inspiration for this shawl was watching the wind moving over a grass meadow in my favourite park here in Vienna, the flowers scattered all over the same meadow and how the different textures and colours of nature complement each other, something I find echoed in plant dyed yarn.

It is worked top-down using a smaller needle size for the honeycomb brioche. The gauge is not that important, but it is advisable to use a smaller needle size for the first section to compensate for the difference in gauge between the brioche and the rest of the stitch patterns.

Yarn
Mirja’s wool play plant dyed BFL/Gotland 4 ply (350 m/100g) in the colours:
A: grey/green
B: Papaya
Or 200 g of any fingering weight yarn (350-400 m/100g) in two colours.

Almost all of colour A will be required.
