Variations 8 (Neck Tie)
Finished Measurements:
1.25 inches wide and 72 inches long
Yarn: Crochet cotton size 8, colours black and grey
Hook: 1.75mm
Design Notes: The lariat is worked in two sections from the middle. One section is worked in black, and the other section is worked in grey. The lariat may be starched to keep its shape and to protect from dust and dirt. Use a commercial fabric stiffener or a homemade stiffener. A basic recipe for stiffener consists of 1 tsp cornstarch in 1 cup of water with a pinch of salt as preservative. Boil this solution gently, let cool and soak the crochet lace, lay flat and dry. You may also put the starch solution in a sprayer and use in spray blocking.
When substituting yarn, choose plied and mercerised cotton. This brings out the details of the stitches more vividly.
