Varja is a Nordic-inspired sweater with looping cables like forged ironwork that twist around the yoke.

Varja is knit in the round from the top down in one piece. The cabled yoke is worked first then stitches are placed on hold for the sleeves whilst the body is knit. Sleeves are also worked in the round with stitches picked up at the underarm so that the only finishing required is weaving in ends and blocking.

Wide Neck vs. Extra Wide Neck
For a standard wide neck (as shown in schematic), use the smaller needle size for the neck, and a Cable Cast On or other method of choice that is not too loose. For an extra wide neck as shown in the sample, use the same needle size as the body; use an extra loose and stretchy cast on method, and then stretch the neck out when blocking.
