Vashon Island … just a ferry ride from Seattle. What a fine trip when you’re knitting or wearing this easy-fitting sweater with its nautical collar, lace front panels, long cabled sleeves, wide neckline and a dramatic faux cable slanting across the back. The loose fit adds versatility to this sweater … wear it casually open, fasten it low for a portrait neckline, or high for serious coziness. A truly great date sweater.

2 to 6” positive ease is recommended. Sweater shown is size 40” worn with 6” ease. For smaller or larger sizes than those listed, work at a smaller or larger gauge. Sweater back is cropped; overall length may be easily added if desired.

Construction: Sweater is worked from the top down in one piece beginning with the flat collar. Raglan shaping begins at the neckline, with lace patterning incorporated into the raglan increases - there’s a lot going on there for a little while. The sweater body is worked flat; sleeves are worked in the round.

Skills needed: Reading charts, lace worked on both right and wrong sides of fabric, cables, short rows (explained).

Pattern includes: Written instructions, stitch patterns in charted format only, schematics, glossary.

Yarn: Sunday Knits 5 ply (137 yd /125 m to 1¾ oz / 50 g); in yarn blends: Brigadoon (100% merino tweed), Nirvana (92% merino, 8% cashmere), Eden (100% merino) or Angelic (75% merino, 25% angora): 7 (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) skeins. Shown in Angelic smoke.

Substitute any light worsted weight yarn that works nicely to gauge.

Needles & notions: Size 8 US / 5.0 mm straight or circular needles for body, and circular or double-pointed for sleeves; size 7 US / 4.5 mm straight or circular needles for cast on; cable or double-pointed needle, tapestry needle, twelve stitch markers (recommend 4 different styles or colors: 2 sets of 4 plus 2 sets of 2).
