Venskab Cowl
The Venskab Cowl is the second in the Venskab Knits collection of patterns - a collaboration between two friends to showcase lustrous small-batch Leicester Longwool yarn, from Hurricane Hill Farm, in easy but engaging patterns with textures inspired by Danish relief-stitch designs.
The cowl is worked in the round, starting and ending with broken rib, and incorporates seed-stitch patterns through the body with a larger star motif in the center front.
Venskab means friendship:
Hurricane Hill Farm is a small-scale heritage farm in Rhode Island, raising Leicester Longwools, an endangered, historic sheep breed. The farm is run by my best friend and her partner. We have been friends for many, many years, but this is the first time we have been able to collaborate on a project. She is as passionate about her Danish heritage as she is about the beautiful farm-to-yarn they produce.
The motifs in the Venskab Knits collection are primarily inspired by Vivian Høxbro’s wonderful book, “Traditional Danish Sweaters,” which explores the history of Danish “night sweaters” with their fabulous textured patterns and twisted stitches.
