INSTRUCTIONS:
You will make this sweater from top down in stockinette stitch. Its neckline is V-shaped and the shoulder line has been moved to the back. This design does not require sewing at all.
You’ll start by making the top part of the sweater, i.e. the back, and then the front. Working in rows of stockinette stitch you will model the shoulder line, neckline and underarm.
Once the top of the sweater is ready, you will join the front and back. You will continue to work in rounds using stockinette stitch. Once the whole body is done, you will make the sleeves. After binding off and finishing the neckline, block the sweater.
TUTORIALS:
The additional videos will help you to understand the instructions.

- Picking up stitches at the edge
- German Short Rows
- Backwards Loop Cast-On
- Basic Bind-Off
MATERIALS:
You can make this sweater from different yarn combinations. Their choice will affect the quality of the resulting knit.
If you want your sweater to be made from the highest quality wool, combine Lamana Como (or Lamana Como Cashmere) with two strands of Lamana Premia. The resulting knit is extremely light and fluffy, and the mohair present in Premia is not prickly.
A combination of Drops Alpaca with Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk also works very well. It’s a great compromise between price and quality of the sweater.
A sweater made from a mix of Drops Baby Merino and Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk is quite chunky and has a very pleasant feel. This yarn blend results in a lower--quality knit compared to the others.
Depending on the yarns you choose, you will work with double or triple thread.
Recommended yarns:
- 200 (225) 225 (250) 250 (275) 300 g Lamana Como (25 g = 120 m 131 yd, 100% merino wool) or Lamana Como Cashmere (25 g = 120 m 131 yd, 70% merino wool, 30% cashmere) with two strands of 150 (175) 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g Lamana Premia (25 g = 300 m 328 yd, 60% Super Kid mohair, 40% silk)
or
- 250 (300) 300 (300) 350 (350) 400 g Drops Alpaca (50 g = 167 m 183 yd, 100% alpaca wool) with one strand of 150 (175) 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk (25 g = 140 m 153 yd, 77% alpaca wool, 23% silk)
or
- 250 (300) 300 (300) 350 (350) 400 g Drops Baby Merino (50 g = 175 m 191 yd, 100% merino wool) with one strand of 150 (175) 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 g Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk (25 g = 140 m 153 yd, 77% alpaca wool, 23% silk)
NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES:
− circular needles (i.e. with a cable):
• 5 mm US 800 cm) 24 in, 40 in or other size suitable for obtaining the correct gauge size
• 5 mm US 8r 50 cm) 16 in or 20 in short needles for making sleeves
• 4.5 mm US 7m) 24 in for casting on the stitches for the sleeves
• 2 mm US 0r 80 cm) 24 in or 32 in for casting on the stitches for the neckline
• 5 mm US 8 double-pointed needles for making sleeves in the smallest rounds (you can replace them with circular needles if you know the magic loop technique or use ‘mini’ needles)
− any 6 mm US 10 needle for bind-off
− stitch markers, measuring tape, darning needle, row counter
− additional circular needle, stitch holders or a piece of thread to put the stitches away
GAUGE:
The following gauge was made in rows on 5 mm US 8 needles and measured:
• before blocking: 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4 in = 17 sts x 25 rows in stockinette stitch
• after blocking: 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4 in = 17 sts x 24 rows in stockinette stitch
Make and block the stockinette stitch gauge. If your swatch is too large use smaller needles or work the stitches tighter. If it is too small, use larger needles or work your stitches more loosely.
