Pattern for a Venus FlyTrap crocheted blanket / tapestry. This pattern comes with both a graph and written directions.

All single stitch crochet using the tapestry crochet technique (carrying yarn)

You will need 6 skeins of White yarn (A), 4 skeins of Green Yarn (B) & 2-4 skeins of red yarn (C) ((depending on if you decide to carry the red through the entire pattern or only use where needed)). This is assuming a medium weight yarn with a skein length of about 350 yards.

I recommend carrying the white (A) and green (B) yarn through the entire pattern to keep it even. I would only carry the red in the section of the pattern where needed. You can either cut the yarn and re-tie or stop carrying the red when you’re getting back to the background and come back for it and pick it up again when you get to the red section on the next row. You could also carry all 3 colors through the entire pattern. It is largely a personal preference but I will say with bright colors you can see it peeking through more (especially with a white background). Of course, it depends on what colors you’re using as well. There are many finished example patterns that you can see in my shop where the finished project shows what carrying yarn looks like and how much you can see since that is what I do with most of the patterns.

I recommend a medium weight (worsted weight) yarn with a J sized hook. The tapestry should come out a little over 4 feet wide (when crocheted with a J hook and medium weight yarn). A border can also increase the size and give the project a more finished look.

It is all single stitch crochet. In order to make this blanket you will need to know how to carry yarn (there are great Youtube videos that can teach you how to do the Tapestry Crochet Technique. I highly recommend trying a small simple pattern to practice carrying yarn before attempting a larger project. Carrying yarn gets more difficult as you add more colors.

150 stiches wide by 134 rows tall

Once you have purchased this pattern a text document that like this (below) will automatically download to you. If you have any trouble receiving it message me and I will have it e-mailed to you in no time. This pattern also comes with a Graph!

1.) A-150
2.) A-30, B-20, A-10, B-50
3….

The #’s are for each row
The letters are for different colors. (A = White (or background color), B = Green, C = Red)
(so the above pattern would have the first row be 150 stitches of color A. 2nd row would have 30 stitches of color A followed by 20 stitches of color B followed by 10 stitches of color A and so on….)
