Verdure Shawlette
As of 20 July 2020, and as a result of the accessibility issues of the new Ravelry layout, my two shawl designs are available for free. If you still wish to pay for these designs as you download them, I invite you to make a donation to your charity of choice. You can also download my designs directly on my blog, fluffyfibers.wordpress.com
This design was born out of a love story with a yarn. The decadently soft fibre lent itself blissfully to smooth stockinette. The delicate, silvery green whispered the song of the wind in the young spring foliage. That is how this small botanical shawl came to be.
Verdure is a softly rounded crescent shawlette knit with one skein of fingering yarn.
The crescent shape is knit in stockinette.
The lace border is then cast on from the edge of the stockinette body and knit sideways, allowing for a quick, fuss-free bind-off, and a naturally stretchy edging.
No seaming or picking-up of stitches is involved.
FINISHED DIMENSIONS:
170 wide x 30 cm high at the widest and highest points.
NOTIONS NEEDED
* 100 grams of fingering weight yarn. I used 92 grams of a 400-yard (366-metre) skein and I knit English style, which I believe gives a tighter knit than Continental. Please consider you will be using slightly more yardage if you tend to knit loosely, so I do recommend using a 400-metre skein (rather than a 400-yard one).
Yarn used was Voolenvine Yarns Lush (2-ply, 80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon) in the Succulent colourway. The Lush base has since been replaced by Voolenvine Wolke (same fibre content, 4-ply, 435 yards).
- 4-mm (US 6) circular needles, or size to obtain gauge.
- Stitch markers will help you spot the edge stitches, but are optional.
You will be able to download the pattern in two PDF formats: a full format with pictures, and a more eco-friendly, print-out version.
Lace border is fully charted, but full written instructions are also included.
