Veritas
Veritas was inspired by the stunning color of this gorgeous A Verb for Keeping Warm yarn. When I first saw that this rich colorway is called Mulled Wine, I decided to use that as an inspiration for the shawl design and I chose a lace pattern that reminded me of vineyards and grape vines growing on trellises. This beautiful leafy lace pattern is timeless; even though it has its roots in 19th century, it feels modern thanks to its strong geometric lines.
This shawl is worked in one piece from the top down starting with a narrow lace edge followed by a simple set of short rows, which shape the shawl into a versatile crescent. After the short rows are complete, the deep lace border is worked next, and then the shawl is finished with a delicate trim along the bottom edge.
For additional interest and some unexpected sparkle, the lace is beaded throughout; however, the beads are optional and the pattern can be worked without them (450 6/0 4.00mm seed beads). This, along with the easy lace pattern, makes Veritas a great intro-to-lace project and a fun, quick knit for the more advanced lace knitter.
This pattern was originally published as part of A Verb for Keeping Warm’s Pro-Verbial Yarn Club in January 2015.
Yarn requirements: Any lace or fingering weight yarn; the original was completed with 400 yards of A Verb for Keeping Warm “Rumor”
