This is a quick ornament in the traditional Vermont “Moriarty Hat” style that you can make with scrap yarn. The pompom is optional, but it does make the ornament look more like a hat. I usually use a bright main color, with white stripes and a white pompom.

Materials:
5 (yes five) double-pointed needles, size 3
less than ½ oz. sport yarn in main color
small amount sport yarn in contrasting color
purchased 1” ball fringe for top pompom (carefully detach individual ball to include its string to tie on the inside of the hat; a seam ripper is helpful)

Gauge: 6 stitches = 1 inches
Ornament will measure 3” wide
