Veronica Speedwell
This pattern is the third design in the Nature Series. It is inspired by little blue flowers I found in the grass in my garden. I was curious to know what the plant was and found out that it is a herb called by the common name “Speedwell” and that it is of the Veronica genus. Hence the name of these socks, Veronica Speedwell!
This design features stranded colourwork, and I have attempted to make this design accessible to all. It is a top down construction with the flowers on the leg only. The rest of the sock is stockinette. This makes it an easy pattern once you are through the concentration of the colourwork. This pattern works well for using sock yarn scraps for the flower motif.
You need one 100g hank of sock yarn for the main colour and about 10g for the flower motif and 5g for the centre point.
Note that flower motif is the same in each row, but because of the staggering of the second row of flowers, the repeat begins and ends differently. If you prefer all the flowers to be lined up and not staggered, feel free to ignore the second round and use only the first 10 rounds of the chart for all three rows of flowers. You can also mix it up and repeat the rows of flowers less or more as you wish, and use different coloured yarn for each row of flowers to create a really interesting sock bouquet!
I have put together to a tutorial to help with some of the technical points of colourwork here: https://kiwiyarns.wordpress.com/2015/10/28/tutorial-colou...
