Verray is an asymmetrical triangular shawl with stripes that showcase the multitude of colors in a variegated yarn, alongside an assortment of textures worked in a solid yarn.

The stitch patterns -- Seed Stitch, Moss Stitch, Garter Stitch worked in angled short rows, and Stranded Seed Stitch -- are all worked flat (back and forth). The yarns are carried neatly near one edge, thus omitting the need to weave in numerous ends. The fabric lies flat and looks similar on the front and back.

Instructions are provided for three sizes to allow for different skein yardages or to use leftovers from the knitter’s stash.
Small: 66 x 11 inches/167 x 28 cm
Medium: 70 x 13.5 inches/178 x 34 cm
Large: 74 x 16 inches/187 x 40 cm

Verray requires a skein of variegated fingering weight yarn, and a skein of solid (or semi-solid) fingering weight yarn. Approximate yarn requirements by size are:
210, 239; 269 yds/192, 219; 246 m variegated yarn
and 328, 370; 416 yds/300, 338; 380 m solid yarn,
both in fingering weight.

The sample was worked in fingering weight yarn in size Large.

The shawl is begun at a corner that is one of the ends (ties) of the shawl. The right-hand edge is the top (neck) edge of the shawl. The left-hand edge and the bind off edge are the downward-pointing sides of the triangle. The stripes are parallel to the bind off edge. The knitting is done back and forth.

Instructions are provided both in text and charts, and can be used independently or in combination.

Verray is an appropriate project for intermediate level knitters.
