It’s a rug. It’s a blanket. It’s anything you want it to be. Dozens of choices in color design, size and 2 border options. This is a modernized version of the original rug pattern and expanded to make more than just a rug. Mix and match with other patterns in the eBook.

Reference to the original pattern is published in this pattern. It’s a fantastic forgotten pattern that deserves to see the light of day!

This pattern uses a combination of techniques. Motifs that are sometimes joined as you go or sewn together. The full size blocks are worked in the round and the half blocks are worked back and forth.

You can use whatever size yarn you desire. The original pattern used 3 strands of #10 thread. The type of fiber you use and the size you make your rug (or blanket) determines how much yarn you use.

There is a choice of two borders. One is the original border that uses the Knot Stitch to make bobbles. I can assure you this is MUCH more fun than making bobble stitches or puff stitches. The second border option uses less yarn and is a plain border to set off the gorgeous texture of the blocks.

This pattern is rated as Intermediate because it uses the Knot Stitch (which is optional) and because it introduces a unique Turning Corner. There is a photo tutorial to assist with the new technique.

Fiber
Note: You can use as many strands held together as you wish for the desired thickness of the rug. If you use more strands then you will need more fiber. You can use any weight of yarn that you desire – this will affect the size of your rug. The larger your project the more yarn it will require.

The original vintage pattern was made using 3 strands of #10 thread with a final size of 22 in by 37 in. It used Lily SKYTONE Mercerized Crochet Cotton – 13 balls Salmon Rose and 16 balls Rose Fraise. The Rose Fraise was used for the border. The Knotted Border was 7 Knot Stitch rows (which is more then I used in my rugs).

Worsted Weight Rug (2 strands held together)
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton, Mod Pink, 100% cotton, 710 yds/655 m, 14 oz/400 g
Used: 4.6 skeins, 3266 yds
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Twists, Lava Lamp, 100% cotton, 603 yds/ 551 m, 12 oz/340 g
Used: 1.75 skeins, 1055.6 yds (for 6 rows of the Knotted Border)

Sock Weight Cotton Thread Rug (3 strands held together)
J&P Coats Lustersheen thread, Grape, 1.75 oz/50 g, 85.2 yd per ball.
Used: 19 balls, 33.25 oz/950 gm, 1618.8 yd
Note: This Lustersheen thread is no longer made so I am estimating the weight of the thread. The current Lustersheen yarn that is now produced is weighted as 2 on the label.

Rayon 065 Black, #10 thread, unknown label for cone,
Used: 1200 yds (estimated)
For the Knotted Border, I used 2 strands of Grape and 5 strands of Black. If you used 3 strands of the same weight of thread/yarn for the border then you would use a lot less for the Knotted Border then I did.

YARN HELD TOGETHER - As stated above, I held together an unlabeled rayon yarn. It is approximately #10 weight or lace weight.
