this scarf pattern is knit with handpainted yarn sideways (long rows) instead of across. This creates a pleasing vertical pattern akin to the texture of a mixed or handpainted warp in weaving.

Working in our Corriedale/Corriedale cross woolen spun yarn, you just need one skein of the handpaint and one small skein of the solid for the rolled edge. Pattern has three length/width proportions. Other yarns that work well are the Tunis double twist or Targhee two ply. Comfortable & warm. this very (very) easy scarf will be one you grab all the time.

Yarn: Corriedale/Corriedale cross: one large skein in a handpaint and one small skein in a coordinating solid for the rolled edge
Sizes: Three different proportions are included, from long & slender to shorter & wider, all using the same amount of yarn. Wide scarf (purple green photo) 8.5” x 58” / 20 x 150 cm. Medium (blue green version) 5.375” x 72” / 14 x 185 cm. Narrow 4” x 80” / 10 x 200 cm
Skills: knitting, purling, picking up stitches
Level of difficulty: very easy
Needles: US 8/5 mm circular needle, 36”/90 cm or longer. Optional: US 7/4.5 mm for the rolled edge
