Very quick fingerless gloves
Here’s a pattern for a quick and easy pair of fingerless gloves. You can use any chunky yarn you like (or use two yarns held together) and any suitable hook size you want. You will be working these to fit your own hands or the hands of a lucky recipient - so you’ll do this by holding your work up to your hand - or to a tape measure/ruler if you’ve taken measurements - as you go along.
Remember to note down what you did for the first glove so you can easily replicate it for the second one!

UK terms
- Make a foundation treble row – 20 sts. Alternatively Ch 22, Tr in 3rd Ch from hook, Tr in remaining 18 chains. 20 sts.
You can make this shorter or longer according to the size you want. Keep holding it to your hand or decide in advance how long you want the gloves and work to a ruler/tape measure.
I made 12 rows for my tiny hands with this chunky, bouncy yarn. Again keep trying it against your hand – remembering they will fit better if they stretch a little.
-
Fold in half so that the beginning row or chains are held against the top of the final row of Trs.
-
Decide where you want to put your thumb holes
You can do this by putting the folded piece in place over your hand and marking the start and finish of 5 sts where it will be left open. Use stitch markers (or pieces of yarn, safety pins, whatever). The following is how I placed mine.
-
DC join (DC through the sts of both sides) along the edge for 9 sts (or to your first stitch marker), DC into 5sts on one edge only, DC join remaining sts and fasten off.
-
Work 5 DCs along the unworked edge on the other side, then keep going around onto the previously worked DCs, working in continuous rounds for 3 rows (or longer if you wish). Fasten off.
-
Sew in the ends and turn the gloves inside out (or outside in depending on how you want to look at it).
If anything doesn’t make sense or you have any questions, feel free to message me. Enjoy! :slightly_smiling_face:
