Vestborough is a center-out stockinette lace vest with i-cord armholes and sideways garter lace edging with short-row corners.
It is knit in one piece starting with a circular cast-on at the center and ending with a knitted on lace edging, like a circular lace shawl but with armholes so it can be worn comfortably and will not fall off your shoulders.
Size is determined by chest circumference, and instructions are given for sizes 38, 44, 48 and 54 inch finished circumference. However, you may place the armholes at a comfortable distance for your back and knit the front in a larger size if desired.
The lace looks best in a smooth, plain colored yarn but creative color combinations might look wonderful also. I’ve used Fingering weight merino-silk yarn and Euroflax Sport in my samples, but probably any sock yarn or fingering weight wool will look lovely.
Charts only are given for all lace, with additional explanation of short-row corners in words.
As gauge is a personal thing, you can use the center up to the armholes as a gauge swatch and knit to the specified width listed on the schematic to get the best fit in the back. The edging requires a specific number of stitches, so the ending is fixed, but there is a lot of latitude in the sizing. This is such a fun knit that I hope you enjoy it too!
