Vested Interests
High School was difficult for me, academically as well as socially. And those plaid circle skirts (made by my mother), with red tights and white ankle socks won me neither fashion nor academic accolades! But I eventually had something in my wardrobe to draw admiring rather than horrified stares in the hallways of Hunter College High School.
My grandmother, “Nanny” (you met her in my “Big Love” pattern notes), crocheted me a beautiful white vest out of bedspread cotton. I wore it with a white silky blouse and a mini skirt, and for the first time in my life, I knew I looked cool! When asked where I bought it, I would say (casually), “Oh, something my grandmother crocheted for me,” knowing well I had a treasure that money couldn’t buy. I’ll never forget that vest. I even managed to find a picture of me wearing it!

I wanted to design a vest in memory of my teen treasure, but have the pattern fit a wide variety of those of us that hold up half the sky. Included are sizes ranging from a tiny baby to a Woman’s Plus-size.
MANY THANKS to EffinEffie, Editor and Test-Crocheter Extraordinaire for her patience, wit and wisdom!
