Vestvågøy Sweater
Vestvågøy Sweater is a yoke sweater worked from top to bottom entirely in the round. This sweater has a high neck, i-cord finish, garter ridges and dropped stitches, giving it a unique structure. The recommended length should sit no further than the hip. Since the sweater is worked from top to bottom, it can be tried on along the way, allowing you to customize sleeve and body length.
Inspiration behind the sweater comes from the sea around Lofoten, where pearl inspiration can be found everywhere. The garter ridges represent the beautiful texture of sea urchin shells, pebbles and cloudberries, while the dropped stitches represent nets and moss.
The sweater has a recommended positive ease of approx. 10-20 cm. Of course you can choose the size you want to knit, depending on the type of fit you desire – see the measurements below.
Workflow:
The piece is worked in the round on one size needle only. The pattern, which consists of 18 rounds, is repeated throughout the entire sweater. First the high neck is worked, then the yoke is worked, with increases made in increments throughout to the underarm. Longer circular needles are used along the way when necessary. Once the length is reached to the underarm, sleeve stitches are put on hold while the rest of the body is worked. The bottom is finished with a four-stitch i-cord. The sleeves are transferred back to the needle and are worked individually in the round in the pattern to desired length and finished with an i-cord. The back piece and sleeves have a center line of knit stitches, which not only gives a nice finish to the sweater but also prevents visible pattern changes/jogging.
