Spirals formed by dark and light can evoke the impression of rotation, a sensation that can be forced when the lines and curves change their
widths. Victor Vasarely (1906–1997) played with this effect for
his 1937 work Zebras.

Named after Victor Vasarely, the socks shown here are worked from the toe up in an unnerving swirl pattern that has no repeat. The swirl continues across both insteps of right and left sock, as well as around both soles so that the full pattern appears when the feet are placed together.
