Victoria Frost Mittens
These mittens are knit using stranded colour work, with no more than two colours used per round. They are knit entirely in the round from charts.
Yarn
Isager Strik Alpaca 2, Light Fingering Yarn
(50% Merino, 50% Alpaca, 273 yds/ 50 g skein)
Yardage & Colours
Midnight: 85 - 100 yds
Isager Tweed Topaz - Sky: approx. 65 - 80 yds
Colour 46 - Robin Egg: approx. 50 - 60 yds
Colour 3 - Mustard: approx. 40 - 45 yds
Colour 33 - Rust: approx. 50 - 55 yds
When selecting colours, keep in mind that the pattern is based on having three shades of the same colour that get progressively lighter (in the example, blue that goes from ‘midnight’, to ‘sky’, to ‘robin egg’) along with two accent colours (in the example, rust and mustard).
Gauge:
34 sts and 40 rows to a 10cm/ 4inch square of colour pattern work. Uses US size 2 (2.75mm) needles.
Sizes:
These mittens are designed in one size only:
Circumference of cuff: 7 inches
Length (including cuff): 9 inches
Length (excluding cuff): 7 inches
If you would like a slightly larger mitten, I would suggest going up one needle size each on the cuff ribbing and the main mitten.
Supplies
Set of US 2 (2.75mm) double-pointed needles
Set of US 1 (2.25mm) double-pointed needles
A tapestry needle to weave in loose ends
Optional: 2 stitch markers to mark the delineation between the palm and the thumb on each side of the mitten.
