This is a modern translation and step by step tutorial with pictures for a Victorian Comforter (or scarf). It also includes links to video tutorials for the puff stitches and scarf edgings.

The original pattern is from Weldon’s Practical Crochet, Series Three from 1895. In particular, this scarf is like what Bob Crachet would have worn in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

As far as difficulty goes, this is somewhere between easy and intermediate because of the edging.
