Victorian Diamonds Christmas Stocking
Featuring an intricate arrangement of cables, seeded filigree diamonds, bobbles, and pintuck-like ribbing to evoke the richness of decoration found on Victorian fashions, this stocking will be the perfect complement to your Victorian or Steampunk Christmas decor. Rather than a full sock foot, the stocking narrows into a triangle and is finished with a tassel at the bottom, reminiscent of a 19th century reticule bag. The pattern is far easier to knit than its complex appearance would suggest, and should be finished in just a couple of days for quick holiday gifting. Decorate with ribbon, buttons or charms to individualize each stocking.
Size:
One size. The size will be determined by the yarn and needles used. A medium weight yarn and a size 5 needle will yield a stocking approximately 6.5” wide by 16” long.
Materials:
Heavy Worsted (Aran) Weight Yarn, approx. 290y (2 skeins of most brands. Choose a smooth yarn with a high twist for good stitch definition.)
16” Circular Needle 3.75 mm (size 5)
Double pointed needle set 3.75mm (size 5)
One straight or double pointed needle 8 mm (size 11) or larger
Cable needle or spare dpn
1 Stitch marker
6.5mm (Size K/ 10.5) or larger crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Optional decoration: ribbon, buttons
Gauge:
An exact gauge is not important to this project. While any size yarn and needle may be used to affect the size of the stocking, use a smaller needle than you would usually use on the weight of your yarn to keep the gauge very close and produce a firm and dense fabric.
