My sister, Susie, visits Santa Fe a couple of times a year and always pays a visit to the Victory Ranch in Mora. She can’t resist sending me skeins of their beautiful alpaca yarn. Her last visit yielded two skeins of the worsted weight in two beautiful colors.

Worked in worsted weight yarn, this crescent-shaped shawl is worked from the top down in garter stitch and finished with a classic, double-eyelet edging in a contrast color. The finished shawl is warm with a wonderful drape that clings to your shoulders.

The shawl body is worked top down in garter stitch, increasing at both ends of every row. The edging is attached as it’s worked.

The finished, blocked shawl has a wingspan of approximately 52” and a back length of approximately 14”. Altering the size of the shawl is easy, but changing the weight of yarn and/or the amount of yarn used will affect how much yarn you need.

A size US 9 (5.5mm) 26” circular needle and 320 yards of worsted weight yarn are needed. You will need 210 yards for the main body of the shawl, and 110 yards for the edging.

Using a slightly larger needle than usual for worsted weight produces a springy, squooshy fabric. The edging instructions are both written and charted.
