The cuff of this ethnographic mitten from Cesvaine begins with a series of seven pairs of knit and purl rows (garter stitch). This type of cuff dates to the 18th Century and makes for a sturdy cuff that doesn’t roll. The upper mitten is knit in two colors throughout. The photo shows a third color that “pops” or accentuates the color.

A change in needle size or yarn will vary the gauge: check your gauge in pattern before casting on.

Cesvaine sits generally east of Riga.
