A vignette is a single, beautifully captured moment. In photography, it’s an image that softly fades into darkness at the edges, drawing the eye to the heart of the story. In literature, it’s a brief, vivid description that paints a picture with words that lingers in the mind. Both forms of vignette invite us to see the world in a new way, to focus on the essential and let the unnecessary ebb away. Sometimes, the most profound changes begin with one moment of clarity: a fleeting impression that stays with us. That’s the joy of creativity at work. We get to choose our focus and our framing. We shape our own stories.

Vignette was designed to use a yarn advent calendar or gradient set, but it’s such a flexible pattern that you can really use any yarn you choose. It would look wonderful made from a heap of reimagined scraps from many past projects or a curated set of special skeins from your stash. The pattern includes both a wrap and a square throw version: your choice! With cosy, squishy garter sections interspersed with a super-simple but evocative wavy eyelet lace repeats, Vignette is comfort knitting on a grand scale. A neat, i-cord border gives the piece a modern finish, and I’ve created several quick and easy tutorials to help!

How does Knitvent work?

Curious Handmade’s annual Knitvent collection blends the curiosity and community spirit of a mystery knitalong with the excitement and momentum of a holiday countdown calendar.

Each week of Knitvent, a secret knitting pattern (or two!) is revealed. With six fresh patterns bundled into one low price, it’s a small but well-deserved treat for yourself—a weekly flash of surprise and delight at a time of year that often asks a lot of us.

Whether you’re adding to your pile of handknit presents or freshening up your own handmade wardrobe, you can expect a collection fun, fast accessory patterns and one grand, irresistible “advent calendar” design, designed to showcase 24 mini skeins or use up your cherished stash of yarn scraps.

Key details to know

• You’ll receive SIX beautiful knitting patterns, including a large “scrappy” pattern ideal for using a yarn advent calendar, and at least one shawl!
• This is a PRE-SALE period, so when you first buy the collection you will receive a downloadable PDF info sheet until the first pattern is revealed.
• Either one or two patterns will be released each week for five weeks. Knitvent patterns are released on Thursdays, starting November 7th and ending December 5th.
• All patterns will be written in the Curious Handmade percentage checklist™ style, fully written with charts where needed. Level of pattern difficulty will be adventurous beginner to intermediate.
