Edit: Response has been that the pattern for the large hat is too large - I based this off my husband who only later told me he has an XL helmet size. Overall everyone seems to think that the 78 around is just fine for size.

Note: In the horn section Rows 18-22 should start with a “sc 20” not “sc 16” - thanks to Summerset for pointing that out to me

I took inspiration from a photo I saw on pinterest that I have linked here for you. However I could not find any patterns like that (free or otherwise).

I am not sure what my yardage for the hat pieces was as I used a lot of half balls and scraps I had available. As it is a hat and the embellishments small it does not take a lot of yarn.

At the time of making this pattern I had no idea how to make the horns and I used Caitlin Pautler Epic Viking Beard pattern to help me. You can find that pattern here. By following the pattern provided for making those horns I figured out how the increases and decreases would bend the horns (its very counter intuitive, increases go on the inside of the bend and decreases go on the out side!).

Once I understood how to basically make the horn shape I did some trial and error to get the look I wanted. I am particularly happy about how the broken horn turned out.
