Vildapel is Swedish for crab apple (directly translated: wild apple), and the texture reminds me about the wild apple trees blooming in early summer.

The shawl is knitted with combination knitting, which is a combination of Eastern and Western ways of doing knits and purls. It is not difficult! Check the video tutorials if you don’t get it. The shawl is knitted sideways which means you can bind off when the shawl is the size you want or until you run out of yarn. The shape will be triangular and slightly asymmetric.

This pattern was developed for NUTIDEN, which is a preyarn in 100% wool from Höner och Eir. But you can use another appropriate yarn in the middle range of weights, so not too bulky and not too thin/light. An airy yarn is probably better than a dense yarn.

Gauge is not important for this pattern, but you need to try out needles and yarn so that the texture appears properly. It should be a little bit transparent and the small knots (which I call Vildapel stitch) should “pop out”. Please knit a swatch to check how the pattern shows off with your choices of yarn and needles.
