Vildapel
28 of June 2021 : new version up with some minor clarifications!
Vildapel is Swedish for ‘crab apple’, and the main stitch and texture of this cardigan reminds me of its flowers just before blooming. The cardigan is knitted with combination knitting (combined knitting), which is a combination of Eastern and Western type of knits and purls. Basically, it has to do with two variations: if you work in the back or front loop of the stitch, and the way you wrap the yarn around the needle (clockwise or counterclockwise). It is not more difficult than ordinary stockinette knitting.
There are video instruction for the main stitch “Vildapel” which make the little knots in the texture. It is important to knit this pattern gentle. Don’t pull the stitches too much, then the little knots will not pop out as beautiful as if you take it easy.
The pattern was developed for Nutiden unspun yarn, and is also testknitted in other type of unspun yarns such as Plötulopi. Approximately 300 gram of Nutiden was used for size M. This might vary depending on how you knit and which size you knit between 200 grams and 600 grams. Single thread is recommended to get the really light fabric.
The pattern is written for sizes XS to 2XL, but since the construction is raglan you can easily adapt the pattern to your shapes – or just learn the main stitch and go wild!
Approximate measuresment in cm (bust/sleeve circumference):
XS (83/35)
S (89/37)
M (98/40)
L (105/43)
XL (109/46)
2XL (120/50)
Good luck! And please, contact me if there is any errors or problems with the pattern so I can correct them.
