Vildros Socks
These wild roses are invasive! First they crept onto one sock, and suddenly I’m knitting a second pair - enough to keep my feet warm through Sweden’s cool summer nights and icy winters. Let them spread onto your needles too!
If you decide to cast on you’ll be knitting a fairly basic stranded colourwork, top-down, afterthought heel sock. It’s knit mostly with two strands at a time, but also features seven rounds of three-stranded knitting. Most floats are short enough to be managed with a single twist, but there are some very long ones on the toe and heel.
Decide for yourself whether you want a main colour or contrasting toe and/or heel. Both versions of the sock are included in the pdf file.
One size only: EU 38/39, UK 5/6, US 7/8.
I’ve used a sport/DK wool mix yarn for the background and a DK alpaca mix for the rose pattern, because those were the best options already in my stash. You may use any sport or DK sock yarn that knits stranded stockinette to a gauge of 27/31.
The green version requires 125/66/33 m (137/72 36 yd) of green/pink/mustard. The beige version requires 73/66/89 m (80/72/96 yd) of beige/pink/mustard.
I’m an avid DPNer and wouldn’t know how to write a sock pattern for any other technique. You magic loopers tend to be capable people though, so I’m sure you’ll be able to translate the instructions into your mysterious dialect of Knittish.
