This beautiful GRAIN FIELD SHAWL captures the sights and colors of grain fields during the harvest. When worn, the ripe stalks of grain at the bottom of the shawl remain nicely visible in the front, and the shawl alternates between the undulating rows of still uncut grain, the stubble fields and the plowed edges.
The shape of the shawl is a low-cut triangle, and is very soft when knitted from merino wool-silk yarn.

The shawl is started with an I-cord cast on, then knitted back and forth. At the bottom edge, the I-cord edge is knitted at the same time as the work. The I-cord on the upper edge is knitted at the end by picking up stitches. The surface pattern of the shawl is knitted in garter stitch, long stitches, and with a chain stitch crocheted on top.
