Vineyard Rows Tam
A California Highlands Bonnet if there is to be one, this design has born my “California Highlands Collection”. Old mountain vineyards near my home inspire this tam, knit in natural shades of Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift 2ply yarn. Vineyard Rows is a design which brings together Northern California Wine Country & Scottish Highlands in theme and form. It is worked as traditional Fair Isle technique, shaped with concentric decreases and embellished with a toorie, yet this tam has contemporary style, and uses original colorwork motifs. Optional embroidered grapes adorn rambling grape vines with French knots in wine tones, creates a spectacular and colorful needlework finish !
Please see my photo tutorial on how to make a toorie..
An excellent alternate finish to Vineyard Rows Tam is a Dorset-style yarn button which I designed for my Snowmelt Tam, and the tutorial for the button can be found on my website HERE.

Most recent update: May 12, 2015 (2) (If you are working from a pdf which is dated earlier, you have an out-dated pattern.)
Yarn: Four 25g balls in natural colors of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift If you wish to embroider grapes, use any suitable yarn in fingering weight you may have on hand for the small amount needed, however, suggested colors in Jamiesons Spindrift are listed.
Yarn Substitutions: Jamieson & Smith Jumperweight Shetland, Elemental Affects Shetland, Harrisville Designs Shetland.
Gauge: 7 stitches and 8 rows = 1 inch in pattern .
Needles: US 3 - 3.25 mm , or size to obtain gauge, plus size smaller needle for rib.
Other Materials Crochet hook for provisional cast-on, tapestry needle, markers.
Size: One size, 22” head, factoring 2” of negative ease and 20” finished band circumference. Tam measures 11 inches diameter flat, and 9 inches in height from brim to center of wheel when stretched vertically. (For slightly smaller or larger size, I suggest using a size smaller or larger needle respectively, than size which gives gauge.)
Skills: Optional provisional cast-on, knitting in-the-round, 2-color stranding, increasing/decreasing, i-cord bind-off, making a toorie (a small pompom), optional embroidery. Specific skills are explained in key at the end of instruction.
I invite Any & All who are knitting my patterns, to bring questions, comments, great tutorial links to Fair Isle technique, and otherwise general chattiness to a group which exists just for knitters of Jenjoyce Designs, which can be found HERE
