Vinka - a chunky knit blanket featuring a wavy texture

Created with Wool and the Gang’s Jersey Be Good jersey knit yarn, Vinka is heavy weight, chunky blanket that tips the scales at 13 pounds. Enjoy the benefits of a weighted blanket with style. With its generous size, it will cover from neck to toes. It’s perfect for movie watching or for wrapping in next to the campfire. When not in use, Vinka drapes sculpturally and beautifully over furniture. Vinka is easily constructed with a seed stitch border and features repetitive waves which are created with 8 rows of alternating knit and purl stitches.

NOTES ABOUT JERSEY BE GOOD YARN
Wool and the Gang’s Jersey Be Good upcycled t-shirt yarn is made from jersey fabric scraps from Turkish t-shirt factories. Due to the variations of the fabric scraps, the color and thickness of the yarn can vary. When creating a larger project like this with Jersey Be Good, it is strongly recommended to not only purchase all the skeins at once, but to also purchase an extra skein or two. Because of the variations between and within skeins, having these extras will provide a buffer to exclude irregular parts of the skeins. I have found some portions contain knots and ends stitched together, as well as very thin and very thick sections, which I opted not to use. Within the lot of Lipstick Red skeins I used to create Vinka, the color of each one varied slightly. Before starting, I lined them up from the lightest to darkest red tones and then used them in that order. In doing this the finished blanket did not look striped but it did create a very subtle and almost unnoticeable ombre effect. If the yarn within the skeins was a uniform thickness, only 12 skeins would be required to create Vinka. To preshrink Jersey Be Good before working with it, carefully unroll the skein and then place in a lingerie bag. Wash and dry the skein in this bag to avoid large tangles. I did not use this method before creating Vinka but have with other projects.
