This set of ornaments includes three pieces knit flat - the tree, present and heart, and three knit in the round - the snowman, stocking and star.

Each piece uses less than half a ball of any one colour, and in many cases much less.

I chose J&S because I love the colours, the traditional feel, and how well it holds shapes, but this is a great project for using up leftovers.

You should be able to make each ornament in an evening, so the whole project should only be one week.

You’ll need a tapestry needle for the sewing up, toy stuffing, buttons for the snowman (if you like) and a crochet hook for making the hanging loops.

Both the stocking and the snowman use short rows, and the stocking has a little stranded colourwork too.
