This overlay mosaic square features a Vintage Heart Tattoo with that classic old school look - A deep red heart with a banner across the front that says “LOVE” and a pair of birds. Perfect for Valentine’s Day decor with a twist, or that Tattoo enthusiast in your life. These squares work great for pillows, tote bags, placemats, or wall hangings, or repeat the square a few times for a table runner or blanket, etc.

This pattern includes a fully marked chart & written row-by-row instructions. The written instructions are for the black birds but there is a BONUS CHART for the bluebirds included!

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

You will need 2-4 colors of yarn - one for the background, another for the heart & banner, and a 4th color if you want a different color for the birds as well. This design could be worked in just 2 colors if you want to keep it simple.

This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using all 3 colors, you will need approximately 2 oz of the background color, 1.5 oz of the heart color and less than an oz of the banner color, when using a worsted or aran (wt 4) type of yarn & a 5mm or 5.5mm hook.
