Vinterfjell hat
This hat is directly inspired from my Vinterfjell yoke sweater, a Norwegian word that translates to ‘winter mountain’. The hat uses the same motif as the Vinterfjell sweater but with the charts to fit a hat construction that is easy to follow. This pattern is perfect to either try out colours for your Vinterfjell yokes, or to use up left-over yarn from your sweaters.
The pattern comes in 3 different sizes which you choose by simply measuring around your mid-forehead. It’s knitted bottom up, beginning with a rib which you can knit for a shorter single or longer folded hem.
I hope you will enjoy this pattern, and if you need any help or have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me on Ravelry! The group ‘Skeindeer Knits’ is the best place for support. Happy knitting!

- Gauge-size circular needles for stockinette
- Gauge-size circular needles for colourwork
- 1 mm smaller than stockinette gauge-size needles for rib.
- Hypothetical example: 3.5 mm for stockinette, 3.75 mm for colourwork and 2.50 mm for rib.
The suggested yarns are categorised as different weights (sport, fingering, 4ply). This is often because these yarns are from countries that don’t use these categories. However, if you hold strands from each yarn together side by side, you’ll notice they look very much the same. Moreover, the type of yarn that I recommend (2 ply woollen spun) have the advantage that they can be used the same way even if they span from sport weight to light fingering.
