Virgo in Velvet Set
The Virgo in Velvet Set is for all the vivacious go-getters who embody the vibrant energy of Virgo season! Perfect for the late summer/early fall when the weather has no idea what its doing and requires us to layer (which is honestly so rude), this set has you covered. The set consists of a turtleneck “armwarmer” shrug and a matching tube top.
This shrug is worked top down from the neck and each arm is worked separately in the round. The tube top is worked bottom up in the round. For the tube top, instructions are given for adjusting body length as well as options for waist shaping or not. This garment is knit with one strand of bulky velvet yarn.
Sizes:
XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)
30 (34, 38, 42, 46) (50, 54, 58, 62)“/
76 (86, 97, 107, 117) (127, 137, 147, 157) cm bust circumference
This garment is designed to be fit with 4” of negative ease for the tube top, and a relaxed turtleneck and relaxed bishop sleeves for the shrug.
Materials:
• US 9 (5.50 mm) circular needles; 12” for neck/sleeves and 24” or larger for body
• US 7 (4.50 mm) circular needles for tube top hem ribbing
• US 7 (4.50 mm) circular needles for magic loop or DPNs for shrug cuff ribbing
• Stitch markers, one special to mark BOR
• Waste yarn
• Spare circular needles for provisional CO
• Tapestry needle
• Measuring tape
Suggested Yarn:
Velvet bulky, or any yarn that obtains gauge
Recommended:
• Premier Retro Velvet
• Yarnspirations Bernat Velvet
Note: Yardage is given for velvet bulky yarn. If the velvet worming is an issue, here are some tips to help. You may use anything that will give you gauge, but be aware that combinations of wool yarn (ex. 2 strands DK) will likely result in smaller measurements and require more blocking.
Gauge:
11 sts/20 rows on size 9 needles in stockinette stitch per 4”x4” (10x10cm) in the round
Yardage:
See last photo for individual garment & total project yardage.
Note: If you plan on adding length to the body or sleeves, you should allow for additional yardage.
Techniques:
provisional cast on, decreasing, increasing, holding stitches, knitting in the round, knitting flat
