In 2017, Fiona Alice published her first design, Virva, a matching hat and fingerless mitt set in Issue 3 of Laine Magazine. Still inspired by these stitches, Fiona felt a pair of socks in the same fashion would be an enchanting addition to the set. The Virva Socks are adorned with the same textures and motifs and again, use Viola’s rustic hand dyed colours. The twisted ribbing turns into flower steams and buds which appear to be encased in a dome like structure, as if being protected by a greenhouse or terrarium. Individual patterns for Fiona’s Virva Hat and Virva Mitts can also be found on Ravelry.

This pattern is written as if the knitter is using
the Magic Loop Method: the top of the foot is
worked across the first needle and the sole of
the foot is worked across the second needle.
However, DPNs can be used instead: work
instructions for first needle across 1st and 2nd
DPNs, for second needle work across 3rd and
4th DPNs.
