About the two numbers in the sizing range: The main part is worked to the measurement at the end of the range (i.e. 57 cm 22.5 in), but the first row of the bill will constrict the bottom edge of the main part to the measurement listed at the beginning of the range (i.e. 54 cm 21.3 in). If needed, the hat can later be stretched to the required circumference. In general, raffia headgear is so malleable that the size can be adapted – if the item sits too tight, it can be stretched, and if it’s too loose – held in with a ribbon or cord.

The pattern has been designed and graded for use with specific materials at a specific gauge – if substituting other materials, or your gauge doesn’t match the one listed in the instructions, the result might turn out unpredictable. You may experiment, and do your own swatching and calculations for using other materials, but please be advised that I can not readjust the pattern for you if you should decide to use a different type of yarn.
