Vitraux
This quilt-inspired design is a modern interpretation of stained glass. Conceived by the designer as an homage to his father, a master quilter, the blanket’s construction translates common quilting techniques like piecing and binding into knitterly vernacular, using short rows to achieve the angular geometry of each panel. The blanket is composed of five separate strips, each worked in a unique color combination. When the strips are complete, they are joined together with vertical strips of garter stitch to create the stained-glass-like framing of the colored panels.

Construction
Blanket is constructed from five knit columns. The color blocks are created with undertones and overtones of five colors, creating a gradient effect across the columns. German short rows create the angles of the color blocks. Garter bands separate the color blocks, sometimes with the contrast color, sometimes with the column colors. Garter borders are the vertical strips between columns. They are picked up along the right edge of Columns 1–4, then seamed to their neighbors. Garter borders are also picked up along each outside edge, mitered with increases, then seamed at the corners.
