“Vitz” (“joke” in the dialect spoken in Trieste) is a cozy sweater knit top-down in the round, in one piece and with no seaming.
Start by casting-on the stitches for the neckline and work a small twisted rib border; the work continues with a series of short rows to raise the back.
The yoke is very full and is knit in a lace stitch and twisted ribs as it is shaped by a series of increases hidden in the stitch pattern.
When the yoke is completed, the stitches for the sleeves are divided from the body and the three pieces are completed separately in reverse stockinette stitch. If you do not like to purl, you can turn the sweater inside out (with the wrong side facing you) and work in stockinette stitch to the border.
The sleeves are long; all of the borders on the body and sleeves are also knit in twisted rib stitch.

Shown in size M with bust size 96 cm – 37 ¾ in and with 19 cm – 7 ½ in of positive ease at bust.

Circular needles:
4.5 mm – US 7 with a 40 cm – 16 in, 60 cm – 24 in and 80 cm – 32 in cable. If necessary, please adjust needle size to obtain the specified gauge.
Other:
Tapestry needle and scissors.
1 stitch marker.

Note: although the quantity indicated is one skein, in reality you will use much less.

Gauge:
16 sts and 24 rows/rounds = 10 cm – 4 in in reverse st st (after blocking).

“Vitz” (in dialetto triestino “scherzo”) è un maglione dalla linea morbida lavorato dall’alto verso il basso in un unico pezzo e in tondo senza cuciture.
Si incomincia montando le maglie per il collo e lavorando un piccolo bordo a coste ritorte; si prosegue con una serie di ferri accorciati che ne alzano la parte dietro.
Lo sprone è abbondante, è lavorato con un motivo in pizzo ed è modellato da una serie di aumenti nascosti all’interno del motivo.
Alla fine dello sprone si dividono le maniche dal corpo e i tre pezzi sono completati separatamente lavorando a maglia rasata rovescia. Se non si ama lavorare il rovescio, è possibile girare il maglione al contrario (con il rovescio del lavoro rivolto verso l’esterno) e lavorare a maglia rasata diritta fino al bordo.
Le maniche sono molto lunghe e tutti i bordi, anche quelli del corpo, sono lavorati a coste ritorte.

XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL) vestono un giroseno di 76 (86, 96, 106, 117, 127) cm.
