The word voe in Shetland refers to a small inlet. In these areas where the seawater rushes against the land, abandoned cockleshells can be plentiful on the beaches, and in the fields and pastures, left there by larger storms.

This simple but elegant cowl can be knit using either of the two charts included in the book. One chart is the traditional cockleshell motif of Shetland, the second is a modified chart depicting the ridges of the shell.

Sample photos show cowls knit using Jamieson & Smith Shetland Supreme 1 ply lace in white, and Lost City Knits North Pasture Alpaca in colorway Desert Rose.
